Virginia Moxley, Dean for the College of Human Ecology at Kansas State University also serves as a co-founder and co-director of the Institute for Academic Alliances. Virginia is a founding member of the Great Plains Interactive Distance Education Alliance (Great Plains IDEA) and has served on the leadership team from its inception in 1994.
From 2002 when the alliance leadership was formalized, until 2005, Virginia chaired the Board of Directors. During her tenure as board chairwoman, the Great Plains IDEA initiated inter-institutional online master’s degree programs in family financial planning, gerontology, youth development, and merchandising. In addition to serving on the Board of Directors, Virginia oversees the centralized services for the Great Plains IDEA.
Virginia brings forth a a unique perspective with her ability to creatively analyze situations and ideas, and is referred to by IAA colleages as a futureistic thinker who can see the big picture.
Virginia is a native of Kansas and grew up on a large cattle ranch with several brothers. A dedicated Kansan, she received all of her formal education from Kansas State University, including a B.S. in Clothing and Textiles, an M.S. in Family Counseling, and a Ph.D. in Education. Additionally, she has studied leadership and organizational change. Virginia now lives on a large ranch with her husband, who was elected in 2006 to serve as a state representative for Kansas’ 68th District. Her personal passions include her two daughters and two grandchildren, and pastime passions include a love of gardening, flowers and design.
