Program Selection

Program selection should be a bottom-up versus a top-down decision. A program alliance is more likely to succeed when it is faculty driven. Five criteria should guide the selection of a program for inter-institutional collaboration:

  1. Demand: should be large and/or pressing;
  2. Capacity: the partner institutions could not offer the program alone;
  3. Faculty: a strong desire to participant in the program must be present;
  4. Department: the academic unit must be willing to experiment in the development of an atypical program; and
  5. Wisdom: based upon years of academic experience, is it sensible to select the program.
